What does it take to compete in one of these competitions
Posted by Patrickmiller on June 18, 2017, 2:08 pm
Hi, I'm Patrick miller. These competitions look interesting. I've never been to one so not sure how things are run or set up but I really enjoy cooking and would like to do one. I notice in pics online lots of people have these big enclosed trailers off the chain. All I got is a pull behind smoker I built and big commercial grade coolers to put meet in. If it's 2 day events does everyone bring their camper or how does that work. My camper is set up permantly on lake hartwell. Would love to hear and see pics on how all this works. Thanks for any help, patrick

Great to hear from you Patrick, Teams for an event are registered for an event through the Event Origination. Got to the Events Tab on our web site to see the upcoming Events. You might want to look at the tab Cook Team Rules (left side of the page) for an idea of the requirements to participate in a SCBA Sanctioned event. Regarding the equipment/trailers required for an event there are no rules. FYI, the third place team at a recent event had three homemade drum cookers and a dinning canopy. They had a great time, we would love to see your team show up at an event soon.

I was hoping to do the one in maulden sc in sept seeing how it's on 45 min from my house. Talked to Mary and reg is already full. The rest of them is a long haul so guess I'll wait til next year schedule comes out and try again. --Previous Message-- : Hi, I'm Patrick miller. These competitions : look interesting. Patrick you might consider cooking with an existing team one time. Many of us will allow someone like you to come and help us for a weekend. This way you can get some idea of how things work. Also consider Anderson University. It is a great comp.

Maybe something will open for me. If not I'll def be there checking it out. Would really be nice to help someone too. I've never been to a competition and have no idea how it works but Looks fun. My bday is same weekend as the Anderson event so not sure what all I'll have going on but would like to be there too. Hope to talk with ya soon. Thanks man

Hi Patrick, you also might want to attend a competition and just walk around and talk to the cookers. Friday afternoon, or Saturday after 11:00 is an excellent time to talk to us and get all of your questions answered. We cookers are a pretty friendly bunch and all like to encourage new cookers to the competition " circuit ". As was stated earlier all of us don't have big cooking rigs and those that do almost all started with a pick-up and a couple of Weber Smoky Mtns or a homemade pull behind "stick burner". You didn't say where you live but as Wayne said, Mauldin and Anderson will both be great contests to visit and see how this thing works. If you do, be sure to visit Bold Branch BBQ Boys, we will answer any question you have.
