My calculation for The Average SCBA Score:
This is just my opinion of a way to establish a score of an average box. I used the average score of the teams that finished in the middle of the line-up. if there was a even amount of teams, i used the team closer to the top... for example, if there were 10 teams i used the 5th place team. 4 between them and 1st, 5 between them and the last.If it was an odd # of teams, 11 teams, I used the 6 place team, 5 between them and 1st, and 5 between them and last.

Reasons/Uses for numbers.
THE AVERAGE SCORE: One reason i want to know a current average score is to set myself a goal, of course I am trying to win like everyone else but i like to have a realistic goal to meet. If I am averaging 14.900 now, my goal may be to reach an average of 15.2 in the next 5 competitions. That would put me slightly above average. That lets me see my accomplishment, then i can set a new goal.
If i was entering my first ever BBQ competition and i know the average score of the current competitors is 15.170 (or whatever it is). I know where i stand when i see my score. Of course on everyones first competition they are going to finish in the top. LOL, but those that don't can at least see how they stand compared to experienced teams.
The average score should never be used as a pre determined score or starting point for scoring. But I can see how a judge can possibly use it to help consistency, But that's up to the judge. I'm not telling anyone how to judge.
CURRENT AVERAGE TOP 10 SCORES: The first thing I notice is the overall average improved a little from 2015. That tells me that our best got a little better. Why do I care? Because if some of those guys go to a big money competition out of state or out of SCBA, they are a team. They represent us. I want for them to be on there best game. Now I know they improved just a little, so they stand a little better chance of getting a call.
In the events that there are more that one competition, where do I go? If I am concentrating on points I am going to the one that averages the higher score. If I am concentrating on a win, I may go to the one that averages lower and try my best to do anything possible to get any improvement possible. If it has a lower average, maybe it's because most of the top 5 go to the other event. That may increase my odds a little.(this is an example I personally don't care who's at the event but this may improve someones odds)
Last I can see how a judge if they choose could use these average scores to possibly improve consistency between event locations. Again I am not trying to tell anyone how to judge, Thats the judges job.
I put this info one this message for those interested. It's simple averages. It is not meant for standards, guidelines, or a predetermination for judging a box.
