Actually this event has been listed on the Events Calendar for some time but it has not been introduced.
The Lakewood Camping Resort in Surfside Beach is sponsoring a cook-off in September and offering nice cash prizes ($2,500 for 1st place) for a first time event. This huge resort has 2,000 camp sites, fine modern facilities and it sits directly on the Surfside Beach ocean front. Families will be able to take advantage of one of the best beaches in the state during their stay. There is electricity and water at every parking place and ample room for RVs and campers along with a pavilion and other vacation facilities.
It is the desire of the Lakewood people to make this, over the next couple of years, the largest barbeque cook-off on the east coast and they have partnered with Sysco to provide the facilities and funds to attract hundreds of cookers from all over the nation, especially from east of the Mississippi. This has the potential of becoming a national premier event.
