Thank you for signing up to judge the 2015 Mighty Moo Festival, in Cowpens, SC on Saturday June 20th. I hope you all are looking forward to judging and tasting the best BBQ in the state of SC on this date! That I can promise!
This is a two category event (Butts and a Cook team’s option for Ribs) with a 10:00 AM (9:50 – 10:10 AM) turn-in time for Butts and an 11:00 AM (10:50 – 11:10 AM) turn-in for Ribs. The judges meeting will start promptly at 9:00 AM. If you'll be receiving an apron or hat and have not notified me or posted it on the website when you signed up, please get in touch with me so I can be prepared to present it to you on Saturday.
Judging will take place in the Cowpens Museum (Depot), located at the intersection of Palmetto St. and Brown St, at Veterans Park. The museum is a gray building, painted with red trim and is located behind the red caboose, just off the RR tracks.
Please be aware that the streets near the museum and Veterans Park will be blocked-off for the festival so the most convenient place to park is at Central Baptist Church or anywhere near this location. The address to the church is 126 E. Church St, Cowpens, SC 29330. From Central Baptist Church, it’s a short walk on either E. Church St or Palmetto St, across the RR tracks, to the museum, which will be on the right side as you approach the Cooking team sites.
Directions from I-85:
- Exit 83 (SC 110) and follow the signs to Cowpens (approximately 2 miles to town)
- Continue traveling SC 110 until JCT 29 (N. Main St.)
- Turn right on N. Main St. at Hardee’s
- Turn left at E. Church St. (first traffic light)
- Central Baptist Church is one block on your right and the parking lot is located beside the Church
There are 2 parades, the first starting at 9:30 AM Saturday morning and Hwy. 29 (Main Street) will be blocked off around 9:00 – 9:15 AM so you are encouraged to arrive as early as possible. Keep in mind, many people will also be arriving early to find a convenient place to view the parades, while parking as close to the event as possible.
There will be a Chicken Wing Cook-Off, judged by local celebrity judges on Friday night. Samples will be available to purchase. For Judges interested in coming out on Friday, we can always use your help so if you are interested, please let me know if you are available.
If any of you have a family member that is cooking with a team in Cowpens, I need to remind you that you will not be able to judge in this event but we can assign you to other duties to help out. Please let me know in advance if any of you have a family member cooking at the Mighty Moo Festival BBQ Cook-Off.
Also, please remember not to fraternize with the Cook teams or enter their cooking area on Saturday morning until all judging is officially over.
The awards ceremony will be held at 2:00 PM, on the Main Stage at Veterans Park. Please make plans to stay if you can.
The Mighty Moo Festival actually starts on Wednesday June 17th and runs through Saturday June 20th. A complete schedule of each day’s events can be found at:
