Hejaz BBQ Cookoff Judges Briefing

Judges Brief

Hejaz Shrine Temple BBQ Cook-off
June 6 & 7, 2014
Location: 200 Ranch Road, Mauldin SC 29662

Judges Meeting 9:00 am June 7th
Please be on time

Thank you to each of the judges who signed up to participate in Hejaz Temple BBQ Cook-off Saturday, June 7, 2014. The event is at the same location as it was last year, look for the signs. Judges will assemble at the large picnic shelter on the left. On the right you will see the Hejaz Golf Course. Come, arrive early, sign in, mingle, as the judges meeting will commence promptly at 9 AM. We will be judging 2 categories: BUTTS & RIBS. The turn in time for BUTTS is officially 10 AM with the first horn blow at 9:50 AM. The turn in time for RIBS IS 11 AM with the first horn blow at 10:50 AM.

I need to know if any of you will be receiving aprons or advancing to Senior or Master Judge so I can have the proper supplies.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
1.If any of you have a family member that is cooking with a team at the Hejaz event, I need to remind you that you will not be able to judge in this event. We do have other duties that you can do but you will not be able to judge in this event. Let me know if any of you fit into this category.
2. ABSOLUTELY “No talking or discussion of the tasting that is being done between the judges” until all scores have been tallied and verified. The table captain will facilitate and let everyone at their table know when the BBQ is open for discussion!
3. No fraternizing with the cookers prior to judging. After judging is completed, you are free to visit cook sites. But PLEASE DO NOT DISCUSS what you tasted at the table with the cooks.

If any of you need lodging accommodations, please contact me at 864-235-8215 and I will be happy to provide you with a list of nearby motel/hotels.

Lastly, I count on each of you to be there if you signed up for this event. We all know that our schedules change from time to time and if this happens, I kindly ask that you notify me so that I know how to prepare appropriately. I am looking forward to seeing each of you at the Hejaz event.
