Would you walk in a capital 3hours before the most important 90 minutes of your life? Wellington NZ. Me and the better half were walking through the city enjoying a great atmosphere (no fighting) when along the walkway came a large group of men. On closer look it was the NZ football team strolling through the crowds. Once they had passed we noticed a few people having photos taken with a 11million pound player Chris Woods and his premier league star defender West Ham's Winston Reid who is worth a few million himself. They were smiling and chatty so took the unusual step and got a photo with them myself wearing my Notts County shirt (which they looked at with a wry smile). In todays circus of money and fame when would you see a lower team let alone a multi pound dollar player/team engage with the people who pay them far too much in my opinion. What a great sight too see. Yes you may say its only NZ but dosen't that say something for the spirit and mindset of these people. I remember Warnock taking the players to play in the snow prior to the cup tie with Man City i believe but not quite the same.
As for the match the Cake Tin as it is called holds 38,000 and was packed out a record attendance for NZ football, not many you say but again this is NZ and football is not there sport it is all about the All Blacks rugby. The atmosphere is incredible and one of the best in the world due to the nature of design. Also the National anthem was unbelievable and one of the most passionate, loud and tingling I have ever heard. The game ended 0-0 with both sides giving plenty of endeavour but neither side will cause any problems in the finals should they get through, but then again England may change that should they meet!!!. All to play for in Peru but mot expecting a wil but then again with the mindset of these players who knows? Oh and by the way transport, we drove the car a quarter of the way down and got free parking at the train station and roughly 6pound return we arrived at the ground 2minutes away. After the game easy access back to the station platform and homewardbound we were and back to a nighht shift YUK!! Long day but well worth it and a great advert for international football. One player Notts should really look at is Ryan Taylor. A young midfielder but very good and wont last long over here somebody will snap him up . Regards NZ FREd
