I had a similar thing happen at my house and my cat. He was missing for a day, and then I found him in the tree and he was there for another day. He was likely 30 feet up? I think he ran up the tree when the neighbors dog came into the yard, and just didn't know how to come down. He wasn't normally a tree climber. I tried to reach him by climbing the tree, and yup he climbed higher. It was during covid, I was sick, and during a fall snow storm. Eventually, we tied a rope to the branch he was on, my husband managed to get close enough to hacksaw the branch enough that we pulled it down using the rope. Yup, hit the ground running, and run straight over to the soft ground and promptly went potty!! then went and hid. I did manage to get him to come into the shop for the night and he was fine. We were considering actually sawing down the tree....
