You know, I'm Christian but I try my best to live by the Wiccan Rede because it encompasses the Christian way of life in one simple sentence: "An ye harm none, do what ye will". This means that I have free will to do whatever I choose AS LONG AS my actions harm no one, no thing, nor myself. When you really dig deep into that concept, it's a lot more restrictive even than the 10 commandmants!!
And there are a lot of situations where I have to choose to act - even know that my actions will cause harm in some way. Mowing the yard? I'm harming the plants/insects/etc. that live there. Drive my car to town? I'm harming the environment. These things are necessary but under the Rede, I am to be aware of the harm they cause when I make the conscious decision to do them.
Lately I've also been trying to incorporate some of teh Buddhist principals from the Walk for Peace into my life, starting with their basic premise of "Every inhale is a homecoming; every exhale is a gentle contact with life. Being mindful and present is the key to unlocking our peace, right here and now." It plays nicely with the mindfulness/awareness of the Wiccan rede above.
Today will be my peaceful day & I will strive to harm none. Namaste.
