Unfortunately, we had to let our sweet kitty Sylvester (aka Keekles, Kee-kee, Keekles MacAlester) go this morning. He came to us about 8 years ago. We were not cat people. We fed him and he stayed. He was especially close to my husband. We don’t really know his story and/or his true age. He had hyperthyroidism that affected everything - heart, high blood pressure, intercranial issues,kidneys, etc. He went downhill from Sunday. He had been treated for the thyroid issues for about 2 years. We took him to the ER vet last night and he started having seizures. We elected for him to be hospitalized for 12 hours to see if he got any better. The ER vet called us at 4 a.m. and said he had another grand mal seizure. The ER vet hospital we took him to was fantastic. It was great, modern facility. They allowed us to be with him for all of the test and the staff and doctors were so kind and compassionate. We gave him the best chance but the odds were not in his favor. The vet thinks he might have been 17-18 years old. I do believe that Sylvester will send us a dog-friendly kitty one day.
