Sebastian came up snarling like a hell hound. Freddie start barking like a fool. And whatever-it-was burst back OUT the dog door as fast as it came in. Both of my dogs started out after it and I managed (barely) to get in front of them and slam the door.
Y'all, I was darned near hyperventilating at this point! Sebastian was still going ballistic trying to get outside, Freddie barkign his fool head off, and I was torn between running for a gun vs trying to get lights on to see just what the hell had happened.
I opted for the gun. Just in case.
Then I flipped on both the deck lights (the dog door opens onto the deck) and the front porch.
And I saw them. Yes, plural.

My neighbor's damned dogs. Two of 'em. Snuffling around on my front porch.
How they got into my yard, I have no idea.
Why they decided to stage a home invasion, I have no idea.
But as soon as I slung open the front porch window & started screeching "GO HOME DAMMIT!!!!!!!!" at the top of my lungs, they ran like their tails were on fire & their butts were catchin'!
Freddie & Sebastian were still trying to get outside to make sure they were gone but I was afraid to let them (because I had no idea HOW they'd get out of the yard since I didn't know how they got in - and it was too dark to see if they were completely gone) so I make them go to their rooms while I got a LARGE glass of bourbon.
Sheesh, y'all.
Follow up: Talked to the neighbor the next morning & their dog pen has been reinforced again. Fingers crossed that it works this time. My heart can't take that happenning very often!!!!
