It really is a huge emotional toll, especially so much warmth & love lost in a short time span - I'm so sorry for the hurt.

A work friend in the year we lost Otto, had gifted me an adorable plaque in the shape of a house with something like: A house is not a home without a dog, which she had purchased before we lost Otto to CHF. (She did say before the gift exchange that she didn't want to make things worse with a dog-related gift, but I said we still love dogs & it was fine but it's still a pretty bleak feeling.) It feels so true but we are not willing to add another to our home as our own health doesn’t allow for proper care of a life dependant on walks, expensive vet care, food, meds etc. Even if money wasn't a concern, walks & outings together were some of the best parts and were times for increased bonding. Can't do walks or outings any longer and it wouldn't be fair to the furry one. *Sigh*
