I've also seen the Christmas show at the Yum Center in Louisville, seating capacity 22,090, and the Heritage Bank Center in Cincinnati which seats 17,556 people. They're both a bit smaller but the show is the same. Full over-the-top effects.
THEN... I saw the Beethoven show in two MUCH smaller venues as well as seeing it once in Rupp Arena. First was the premier at the Taft Theatre (seating capacity only 2500!!!) in Cincy and then a couple of years later at the Louisville Palace (seating capacity 2800). They couldn't bring out even half of their effects. Talking to one of the roadies at the L'ville Palace, they were only able to use I think 7 out of 13 truckloads of stage gear. No pyro. No lasers. No extraterrestrial light rigging that's as much of a show to watch as the performers. No risers. Just regular light effects/spotlights & fog. But the shows were freakin' incredible! Much more intimate, you were closer to the performers, and everything about it was more intense.
Good luck getting tickets! I'll be heading back to Rupp Arena this year with an old friend from 4-H who's never seen TSO. It ought to be entertaining! lol! I sent her a playlist a few days ago so she can start preparing!
