Our central AC unit since 2009 gave out. Why right in the middle of summer? It has served us well.
We are not going to try to replace it this year. We went to Menards and got a portable floor AC unit. If we need to will get another for the other end of the house for our bedroom and bath. Right now we are trying this one in the basement. If we can turn it on and cool it for an hour and get the basement nice and cold, then run the whole house fan, it will cool it up here for quite a while. We did that with the central unit and it worked so well and the electric bills were only $150. So we are trying it that way and will bring it up here if it doesn't work. Steve wasn't fond of venting it out the window and that is why he doesn't really want to get another one for the bedroom. But he did somehow hook it up to a pipe and made it pretty invisible so it will automatically drain outside. His machinist abilities come in so handy at times=! Fortunately the heat dome is gone for a week until we can get this one adjusted right!
