It's silly, I know, but my entire financial history has been tied to John's income. Even when I was working (both before we had kids & as a private contractor after), everything was combined.
Yeah, we had joint credit cards that I could use. But I never had one that was ALL MINE...
So yesterday, I saw a thing on Amazon where you could apply for their credit card & get an immediate $150 gift card if approved. Hmmmm... I was getting ready to order a replacement cell phone (don't ask, it's a long story but its the only way I could get the phone I wanted) and $150 off would make it a lot more palatable. So why not???
I filled out all the application info, took a deep breathe, and pressed ENTER. And about 30 seconds later, I was yelling WOOHOO and dancing around my office!
Not only did I get approved but it comes with a high enough credit limit that when (not if, but when) the banks associated with my joint cards realize John is gone & cancel them, I can simply transfer all of my automatic payment stuff to it & still have room for groceries, emergencies, etc.
Wow!
I sure didn't think it would be that easy. I'd talked to our local bank about getting a card thru them last month & they basically told me I'd have to start with a pre-paid credit card & then MAYBE after a year of so, they'd reconsider my status & issue a real one... Kiss my hiney, Commonwealth Credit Union!!!! Amazon rules!!!!!!
Oh and the new cell phone should get here Monday. Fingers crossed that I can keep my old one at least semi-functional until then. (It's overheating, bluetooth has stopped working completely, and it won't hold a charge.)
