It's sad how badly insurance billing can get screwed up... but then again, it's GIGO ("garbage in/garbage out") and if the person doing the input makes a mistake, there ya go... I had one place put an MRI in TWICE and insurance paid it! I don't know if I ever managed to convince them that I only had ONE and that they needed to get their money back!
Oh just an FYI on charges... What you're seeing are the dollar amounts negotiated with insurance. Sometimes that's more, sometimes it's less than the dollar amount charged for the same item if insurance wasn't involved. And each insurance company can have a different payment formulary for the same hospital.
Medical billing is a nightmare! I understand how it all works & the ONLY way I can even come close to keeping track of it is with a spreadsheet. And even then, the numbers don't always match. (Right now I'm watching almost $1700 that insurance says we owe that the chemo provider says has been paid in full. I know at some point, that things going to pop up again & we'll have to pay it - by tracking though, I can PROBABLY avoid any interest or surcharges when it finally pops loose...)
