I was having trouble with my laptop and I do have a tech support subscription through AVG. So I called last night for help and (of course in retrospect) they guy was an idiot. I should have recognized the warning signs, but I didn't. He tried a few times to get me to "renew" my subscription and was telling me what it would cost. But I got mad and said if you can't fix the computer I am certainly not paying you guys anymore. He never did fix it and gave me another number for senior tech support. I didn't call it. This morning I called a different number and I am sure I got the real company this time. They had no record of my call last night. I am sure now that I was talking to a scammer.
I changed my passwords this morning. The real tech support verified nothing was done to my laptop. Said it was good thing I never "bought" anything or gave any information. And then did actually fix my problem and "cleaned up" my laptop.
Geez - you gotta watch. I thought I was calling the right place - but then again it was a number I found on the internet. Don't trust stuff you find on the internet.
I am actually somewhat embarrassed - how stupid am I?
