It actually hit 50 degrees later yesterday afternoon with calm winds and sun, so it turned out to be a nice day. It went down into the mid 30s last night which is where it remains for now. Tonight we get that cold front ushering in the artic air. So tomorrow the high will only be 20 degrees.
My laundry is done. The last of my Amazon packages arrived this afternoon. I need to open up one of the twenty pound bags of ice melt from the Home Depot and scoop it into an empty jug that held another brand of pet and plant friendly ice melt.
The snow is supposed to arrive Sunday morning after daybreak. It may mix with sleet at some point so that could cut down on the snow totals. But if that doesn't happen then they're still thinking we could get a foot of snow by Monday morning. Either way it's going to be an awful mess, an awful week. I had more bird seed delivered with my grocery order yesterday along with more peanuts. With more snow coming and bitter cold they aren't going to be able to dig up earthworms to eat. It's supposed to go down to 9 degrees tonight. Time to refill the feeders for tomorrow before the bitter blast arrives.
After today it won't go above freezing again until probably a week from this Sunday. I'm glad our brand new governor has declared an emergency situation with spiking natural gas and electricity costs and is going for a price freeze to prevent everyone's gas and electric bills from being jacked up higher than they already are. The typical cold winter month's gas and electric bill for a two story colonial house like ours is between $500-600 per month. Just awful. We don't need overinflated gas and electric rate hikes.
