Yesterday's thunderstorms came a lot earlier than expected. Hours earlier. Originally they told us to expect the rain to start around 4:30-5 pm. It started thundering and raining just after 1:30. We had a flash flood warning for the afternoon until dinnertime. The rain was still heavy-ish when I drove to PT but lightened up during the session so it was just drizzle when I got out. I just ran into Walgreens afterwards then came straight home. There were areas around us that had flooding downpours, but thankfully not here. Apparently the power did go out to the neighborhood for a time when I was out. It was on when I came home but the microwave's clock was zeroed out and the TV had to reset itself when I turned it on to watch the 5 pm news. It must have been a very brief power outage because I didn't get a text message notification from the gas and electric company.
We had hours of gentle rain all evening into late night. There was still a little light rain this morning. Exactly what we needed. The earth got wet, the trees and plants got water, the pollen was temporarily knocked out of the air.
It's cooler today in the mid 70s, and it feels chilly. It got down into the mid 60s last night so I was able to sleep with the fan off. I had to use a light summer blanket. It's not raining but is still very cloudy, darker grey clouds. It's a home day here. I'm rather tired and a bit sore from having PT two days in a row, too tired to get the oil changed for the car. I'll go early next week. It's just basic housework and I should sort the laundry for tomorrow's wash.
Tomorrow starts the days in the low to mid 80s with lower humidity and bright sunshine. No rain again after today until next Thursday, so I will need to resume watering the outdoor plants on Sunday or Monday. I bought a hibiscus at the ShopRite garden department a week and a half ago and moved it into a much bigger pot. It's out in the middle of the front lawn next to other shrubs. Fortunately the woodchucks are leaving it alone. It will have red flowers when it blooms, but it's still a week or two away from any blooming. Hopefully this rain will help speed up the growth of the flower buds. They are still tiny.
