Cost of the new machine, plus the plumbing for the old washer is tied into a huge old farmhouse type double sink in the basement that needs to be repaired and is currently closed off with capped pipes. It all really needs to be ripped out and completely redone which is going to cost $$$ in plumbing work. Definitely thousands of dollars. The old farm sink is very heavy and would be pricey to have hauled out on its own. Plus there is no incentive since the sewer tax was separated from the rest of the property tax bill and the quarterly sewer tax is your quarterly water bill plus 50% added. Currently our quarterly water bill is just over a hundred dollars. It would be a lot higher if we were doing laundry at home and that would jack up the sewer tax.
