Heidi, we have no electricity anywhere near the stairs plus it's an old house with a long rectangular landing half way up where you turn the corner 90 degrees to walk up the rest of the way. The staircases between floors are all foot printed in top of each other as well, so the stairs to the basement run right underneath. You would literally need two separate stair lifts because of the long landing and 90 degree turn. It would be complicated and pricey to wire the whole thing in, starting with a whole new electric line from the basement circuit breaker, having to run the line up the basement ceiling, then cut through the walls and ceiling of the basement stairs up to the stairs above leading to the second floor. Hideously expensive. Long-term the house will eventually go on the market. I'm the youngest sibling in my mid 50s. The other two are in the early 60s and we're all dealing with health issues. The house is actually too big for us and this is a higher cost of living area. It's cloudy, hazy and smelly from the wildfire smoke. Today is recycling sorting day. Finally yesterday afternoon my right knee was stable enough I could go upstairs and bathe and wash my hair, brush my teeth with toothpaste instead of gritty baking soda. I did manage to gingerly take water jugs outside to water the plants and shrubs Friday and yesterday by filling them at the kitchen sink. That one poor shrub by the front porch in particular has really struggled with the drought. We don't know yet if it will ultimately survive since it came originally with the house in 1969.
