The neighborhood Catholic church had a well attended Halloween party for the kids last night. The crazy next door neighbors actually gave out candy this year for a change. Maybe because they have relatives living in the neighborhood who have grammar school aged kids? There were kids walking around the neighborhood. Probably not as many as in the pre-Covid years, but still a decent amount. But I wasn't going to spend $60+ dollars on candy and worry about running out by 7:30-8pm like in the days when we used to give out candy and I often wound up asking my sister to run to the store for more bags at 7pm when supplies started getting low. Nearly all the houses up the block and around the corner give candy so the local kids could easily fill up on treats without me giving out anything. I kept the lights off and watched tv.
My sister wound up stopping by later yesterday after she spent part of the evening giving out candy, to drop off some things for the house. She still hadn't voted yet. Hopefully she got there this afternoon or will go tomorrow. She seems to be helping out friends with DIY projects, yardwork and such a lot lately in the afternoons and who knows how busy she'll be on election day itself so hopefully she's voted today or will go this weekend. Because the weather is now neither too hot or cold, the yard sale we're going in on with friends who live up the street will probably happen soon.
My other sister worked at the office today but had another zoom call interview for a job up in this area. At this point she still doesn't know which day she'll take the Amtrak train back up. If she moves back into the house permanently that will be complicated logistically. She has an apartment full of furniture she'd have to sell or put in storage. She already has a small storage unit down there for her seasonal and occasional use items. We have a small family storage unit here already but all her stuff wouldn't fit in it. We would either have to upgrade to a large storage unit or she'd have to rent a second smaller one up here and move everything up. Our folks were big on buying furniture so the house has plenty as it is. There's not exactly room here for her living room furniture set. Our current kitchen table is old and needs replacing so it could be discarded in favor of her vintage farmhouse style dinner table though. Our mom had given it to her years ago.
I'm tired from PT and leaf raking yesterday so it's a home day just taking care of the essentials and hanging out with the pets. Part of my PT includes upper body/core strengthening exercises and they have me now up to holding 15 pound weight dumbbells. It's like carrying a big bag of birdseed in each hand just about weight-wise. I only have a pair of one pound dumbbells at home that my mom had used for her PT. I should get a pair of 10 pound dumbbell weights from the sporting goods store for my home exercises.
