I had one that always ran back for the first half hour or so, then would come on and hunt to the front. He probably got the habit from self hunting in Kansas, where I turned him loose from the kennel to run. He pulled it at a field trial one day, and I chased him all over 100 acres and finallyiy caught him for a good whipping. I sure got the horselaugh for That one, but that cured him for a while. Not for long though, and it finally got him. Too bad, he was a goodbird dog and a good sire.

"Yes, I have worked a liver and white setter that never would run to the front...."
I had one dog that would never take the front, a young setter bitch. I never could get her out of it. I would turn around and walk the other way so that she was in front of me but in a couple of minutes she was behind again. I finally gave up and gave her to the ground! Harry
