Thanks all. I dont know what got me really started on this "fast" train. Maybe it was looking at a Shamrock dog folks around here gush over. He is a real nice bird dog, good nose, stylish enough, good disposition, but slow gaited. The fastest dog doesn't always find the most birds, but at a field trial it helps to get there the firstest with the mostest. I've got some Blue Diamond and some Dandy Man, along with a good bit of JC in my bloodline, so maybe I'll just have to go on with it.. Previous Message
I always thought that Blue Diamond was as fast as any of the pointers he ran against. Of course, he may have had a little of that blood back a generation or three.
My old Counterdrive had some setter in him as to the right pointer bitch he would produce long hairs. Some of my friends bred their setter bitches to him, most litters to a setter were 1/2 and 1/2. Once in a while he'd get one or two from a pointer. The bitch he first produced long hairs from was a liver pointer. Any of you guys ever see a liver setter? I've seen several! :-)
Harry PS Some called them "chestnut".
Yes, I have worked a liver and white setter that never would run to the front but scattered like a louse rabbit.
