I've handled in a brace that was just about a flat out horse race. Even mentioned it to the judges. No corrective action taken. Handling at a full running walk is uncalled for, even with BIG running dogs. I love walking horses as a breed, they are generally good natured, kind, and durable. But their fast running walk can be used incorrectly at a field trial. Hell, even Clyde Morton held that opinion. Of course, he rode one too.
I presume that everyone here reads the Coverdog NG as well but if any of you don't, Warpaint has passed. As I often say, none of us makes it out of here alive! I'm 88 now and have buried a lot of good dogs but it always hurts when I have to. I still miss my first dog, was thinking of him just the other day. So my best wishes go out to Alan, George, Pete and Chris and everyone associated with that great dog. Harry
