I haven't entered a dog in a trail for a long time. But come on boys it's the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. It make's endurance and toughness a desirable and necessary quality in breeding bird dogs. I see the same quality in thoroughbred horse racing in the U.S. There is talk that the Belmont stakes is to long at a 1 1/2, that the races are to close together. That the horses will never have to do it again bah! What are going to say to Flatwood Hank, Brush Country Specter, Johnny Crockett, and the dozens of sires and b###hes who won when it was three hours. Are we only going run on sun shiny days? too. I am 65 five this year, I hate to see anything change. I received a heart transplant last year on Aug, 3. I feel like I'm again, and I hope breed one who has the quality to make the distance. I starting to ride those three hours now.

: Is the 3 hour dog passe'? With the change
: the ffa format to one and a half hours,
: there is only the National Ch at 3 hours.
: The Continental is 1 hour and 50 minutes
: now. Many dogs don't finish at grand
: junction, handlers picking up if they don't
: feel they aren't in the race. So where is
: the Big incentive to breed or condition for
: 3 hours? Plus a dog needs to recover from a
: 3 hour heat.
: I don't understand the mystique of three
: hour heats. When I was hunting, I commonly
: used a dog for half a day which for me was
: closer to four hours. If I'm judging a
: field trial, I don't want to look at two
: dogs for three hours, one is enough for me
: to make up my mind. Plus for an amateur, 30
: or 40 hours in the saddle is more than
: enough, I'm not interested in 180 or more,
: or even 90 for that matter.
: Come on guys I remember when most owners wounnt breed to a one-hour trial dog. Endurance dogs were the only dogs I personally like or am interested in. A dog that is hauled and run once or twice a week is a good test. I had a dog that placed 4 times in one major SD trial. Several trials three placements in the same trial. Now that a tough kind of bird dog and all in Wild Bird only venues.Durable
