"I had a horse that would trip over a piece of paper on a paved road but he never fell."
He was a screwy horse. Hard to get into a canter but his run walk was so fast that you didn't really need a canter much. And he was hard to mount. He would spin as you tried to mount him so I either had to have somebody hold him or I had to get him up against something so he couldn't spin. He had a helluva run walk though, smooth and fast. Why I kept him. He was a half day horse though, couldn't go all day. I could ride him mornings or afternoons but never both. I bought another walking horse from somewhere in SW OH and he was an all day horse. So I would ride the half day horse in the AM and the all day horse in the PM for a couple of days, then rest the half day horse for a day and ride the second one all day. Worked out pretty well. The all day horse needed a firm hand though and once when I loaned him to a guy, 10 minutes later the guy was back at the start where he jumped off and tied the horse to my trailer. "Chester" always liked to try out a strange rider to see what he could get away with and apparently he tried too hard for that guy.
