I'm in the wrong country? I've tried to sell
A good mare for 2k and got no inquiries. But she aint a broke dog horse, nust pne that won't kill you.
Hope you mend quickly. Summer training is coming soon.
I am kind of shocked to hear of the prices you are quoting.
Where I am, those kind of prices would be for a horse that is one step from the auction. Folks hereabouts pay that for what are essentially self articulated lawn ornaments that are never ridden.
I've inquired recently and a decent walker with training to be a 7-10 yr. old dog horse is in the neighborhood of $5000-$7000 and more than that if it is smooth.
I wouldn't even want to hazard a guess at what a decent saddlebred would bring around here, but it would be waaay more than a walker.
Well got my saddlebred, pretty slight for a working horse. We'll see.
Well, got em down to about 2000. Still have to go get him. Headed to.montana early next week. Wish me luck surviving. Have two good looking puppies, but no derby age dogs. Full string.
I'm going to try and get one More real good one. I think I have one located. American saddlebred gelding, 5 years old. Kind of proud of him at 3500, but I'll save that much in feed over 4 or 5 years. I want a straight horse this time (No cow hocks s or slough footed) cause they're easier to shoe and stay sound longer, plus I can sell my wAlking mare this fall to pay for him, then pick up one more to have a spare. Walkers are great, but I have not been lucky with them lately. Same with mft' s. I've liked the saddlebreds I've seen, and what they call a trot looks pretty racky to me. Smooth enough to sit and a good fast Lope to catch up with one. Here's to better horses.
Thanks fellas. I am ambulatory ok and Buck is gone, gone, gone, as Johnny Cash says. I've taken more falls in the last few years than all the rest of my riding. Age and balance are catching up to me, but have been lucky by and large. A real good horse is a gem. I've had two, more than share.
Sorry to hear about your fall. Hope you have a speedy recovery as much as that's possible.
Good to hear you're on the mend, Paul. Good horses are hard to find nowadays.
