Sam was a dog I trained for Floyd Amsden.I got him at about a year old and he was flat broke by the time he was two. He would back so far away on the open prairie and after the flush, we would have to walk or ride way back and touch him on the head. He was a litter brother of Easy Mark and a knock down drag out in a head to head contest. He was the classiest dog moving and on point, as his tail was straight and moved from the base and built high up on his back like his brother Mark. Five in that litter were field trial type and only the two were used in this way.
Floyd came one day and put a collar on Sam with the name Oscar Brewer. Oscar was a big-time retriever man, in fact, won there National CHship with a black lab. We would bird hunt and he would keep his labs at heel and send them to retrieve as the pointers and setters stood pat. Oscar owned a corporation law firm with about 12 in the law firm.Floyd owned a huge lumber company in Wichita and was a setter man for sure.
When Mark won the National Open Shooting Dog titles a lot of folks had there money on Sam. Sam got kicked hard in atrial up in Canada which lamed him up a bit.
He was retired and pretty old when on the hunt and know doubt Oklahoma's Mark was a match hard to beat. By the way I did have an extra check cord in my hunting coat and gave it to the lady to lead Sam back. It was great to just see that classy old dog again.Rain so hard the bobcat dont work well on these slopes just slides.
