: derby once back in the day over 50 years ago
: and I swore then and there that I would
: never ruin another one!)
Funny thing was, I didn't really whip him, just grabbed him by the scruff of the neck and shook him. Whoa, that was it. He wouldn't hunt, just sulked around out of reach and wouldn't come when called. He was a big boy from decent bloodlines iirc. Dunno what happened to him, Uhlman gave him away and I never heard anything after that.
Harry PS I forget what he did (or didn't do), this was the summer between his puppy and derby season so he wasn't a little guy, he was well over a year old. But soft!!! I don't think that I ever put my hands on another setter (except maybe to pet) although I have owned a few! As I've said, I had a son of Flaming Star that looked like he was going to be a humdinger but he got killed on a highway. He already had a couple of derby placements as a Spring puppy and was starting to run. Little SoB jumped a deer. Deer made it, he didn't.
