Next morn put two dogs down and the run off will show up go part way and get lost again.
This can go on for three maybe four days with a hard head.
The dog is just making it tough on him self but will figure it out and with no pressure buy the guy that feeds him and pets him on the head.
The good ones will learn to run to the limits which it takes but still go with you.
the good ones got to have this independence and run and of couse every thing else.
: So - your dogs won't handle? My old friend
: Bill Hantzleman had a setter Bill Bailey
: that ran as big or bigger than any setter
: I've ever seen (including Mr Thor). He was
: perfect for Killdeer, he could really fill
: up that big country. Yet Vince Golden (his
: pro handler) and Bill could get him around
: any of the 1/2 hour trials in Ohio, some of
: which had pretty tifgt grounds.
: Question - you ever whip your dog when he
: runs off?

: The dogs we have will run. Current training
: methods are designed to have our dogs win on
: the field trial grounds available. I like a
: dog that runs, and my training grounds will
: allow a dog to hit 1500-1700 yards out front
: and still see em, but when I train that way,
: I don't win because there's only 3-4 trials
: where I run that it's possible to have those
: dogs win. It's a game played to win, not see
: who's dog runs the most. We define our all
: age dogs by the grounds we run them on.
