Re: Tracking Devices
Hi, Keith. I have the original Garmin Astro. Been using it for a long time. I have a few dislikes. Most terrain, I get 700 to 900 yards coverage with the flexible five or six inch antennae on the gps. Sometimes I've lost connection with the dog in heavy snow when the dog isn't as far. Reliable fix has been the telescoping antennae. When I can't connect with the dog, I have to go back to the truck and connect the scope. So far so good. Typically the dog has been less than two miles. Never had to test the range of the telescope.
My older unit occasionally takes a while to connect with the colleges.
Also, the compass on the gps is totally unreliable. I carry a compass attached to my hunting vest to get an accurate direction.
