There are some obscure and weird (to me) breeds out there - saw some dogs with coats that would be tough to live with in the field although might be good for spreading native grass seeds when they got home. ;-) Some of these "parade dogs" might actually poorly represent their breed so my observations might not be valid.
I get Pointers, Setters (all the different colors), Brittanies, GSPs and GWPs and Vizslas but not sure how the other breeds really stack up against these popular models. My father had a Weim when I was just getting my driver's license and I hauled that dog out after pheasants every chance I got. He was but two generations from Germany and was a good dog. I can still say that today with a straight face. The ones I've seen over the past decades not so much.
My grown sons own and occasionally raise American Pit Bull Terriers and I really like their dogs. They are very functional and at 90 plus pounds get your attention. I am a dog guy through and through and especially appreciate any working dog whether pulling carts or digging out vermin.
