Later on my brittanies and setters would be exhausted from the bird contacts and would almost break themselves before the seasons opened. Those days are truly missed and luckily both my boys got to taste some of it before it ended!!
They have reintroduced wild pheasants into Pennsylvania but I do not think it is possible for those wild birds to expand past the boundaties of their protected areas!!
: Excellent, well written post.
: I grew up in central Pa. (1950's and 60's)
: when we had huge populations of pheasants
: and a covey or two of quail about every half
: mile. As a kid I hunted with a collie mix
: and there were so many birds that she became
: quite accomplished at finding them. She had
: a good nose and at times would even flash
: point them.
: Now all the pheasant and quail are gone, no
: sense lamenting something we are never going
: to get back and I feel fortunate to have
: lived during those times.
