I saw the show TLC put on about cat-fishing and one victim was Meri from Sister-Wives. They also featured the football player whose tragic love story came out in the media when his "fiancé" supposedly died. I remember that happening but never heard of cat-fishing before it happened to Meri and then this special. I can imagine falling victim if you're vulnerable and it's just the thing these predators are looking for. I know I'd probably fall for something like this when I was younger and still looking for someone to fulfill that part of me that needed to feel desirable and wanted.
