I was raised by grandparents but as a teen I spent more time with my Mom--she loved cats & took in all the strays. She was liveing in the country near a creek. We would take a walk up the country road to that creek where we sometimes had a picnic with us. Those crazy cats would hike along behind us all the way there & back--like a parade !!
