I realize that this has become a conversation of "I have Common Sense" vs. "Trump can do no wrong"..
But perhaps it's good to converse about a proposed Data Center in Granite City.
There's no local paper, though some ancillary coverage may be extended from Belleville, Alton, Edwardsville, or St. Louis where papers exist in some form.
I think if you're either in support of it or against it....that might be the topic that needs some kind of coverage.
This comes from a place of caring about beautiful Granite City IL.
If you have a view on it, this might be a good place to make it known.
If you want your elected leaders to know how you feel, you may want to say something.
I don't discount that people are speaking their mind in other ways.
But in the past, this message board had its share of elected leaders who would look in and some even would respond if they felt the need.
The Trump vs. Common Sense argument is one that will never bring people to agreement nor will anyone crossover.
It's perpetual loggerheads on that front.
Today....March 4, 2026 and hereafter....
It may be a GREAT day to talk about Granite City.
And more than just how Democrats ruined it and Trump gonna save it. Or vice versa.
Trump doesn't give two hoots about it, unless he can plunder money or votes.
So start talking about the home you love.Everything I said above in my post.....and Foxtrot Delta Tango. ..-. ..- -.-. -.- / -.. --- -. .- .-.. -.. / - .-. ..- -- .--.
We don't live within Granite City and not even close to the area I think they were talking about..but I think if it was considered near us I'd be very leery about it. Sounds like the pros are jobs (but not a huge number of them) and adding to the tax base. The cons are major and and seem to be things that would not get better over time.
The huge draw on water and electricity as well as pollution don't seem to outweigh the benefits. I wonder if solar and/or wind power would make any kind of significant difference in the power needs.
My wife just showed me a video on Facebook from Judine Bruch Lux (in case you want to look it up) that addresses the possibility of Data Centers in Madison County and specifically Granite City.
Apparently there is a meeting at The Mill that residents can attend on the subject. Ms. Lux said she believes that the Mayor and Alderpeople may be in favor of this and that they have not gotten much feedback from residents one way or the other.
Apparently Ms Lux is a realtor and she is not in favor, mainly because of a huge rise in electricity costs and she feels the effect on property values would be very negative.
She is encouraging people to attend the meeting and/or contact the Mayor etc and make your feelings known, whether pro or con.
I didn't catch the date of the meeting, but I'm sure it would be easy to find out. Just FYI
