What a kick in the ***** to the Kennedy family. Start your own arts center and name it what you want. I just can't go for the renaming thing.

This particular renaming is also an example of Trump using extortion to get what he wants.

Republicans on the House Appropriations Committee approved more than $32 million for the Kennedy Center under one condition - that the Opera House be renamed for first lady Melania Trump. There was an amendment added to the bill by Congressman Mike Simpson of Idaho. It still needs a full House and Senate vote, and it's not clear if it'll get a vote anytime soon.

I agree, Bob, this renaming needs to stop.

Ah, so now it needs to stop? Where was everyone earlier when they were renaming military bases and aircraft carriers?? And of course destroying monuments was not an issue at all.

Gwen Walz says they won’t “give up the fight,” claps like a seal, then gives people permission to sit down.

That entire family is nuts.

I agree with you on this renaming of the Kennedy Center.

There is no logical reason for naming it after Melania Trump. She does not even live at the White House.

I doubt that it will get through the House and Senate To making funding a conditional to the renaming is extortion..

Okay, I don’t care for renaming much either and I hate graffiti being painted on buildings, plus I loathe historical monuments being toppled and destroyed.

But, further inquiry reveals this, “a House panel advanced a measure to rename a venue at the Kennedy Center in honor of Melania Trump.

The theater is presently designated as the "Opera House," located between the "Concert Hall" and the "Eisenhower Theater."

The Kennedy Center will remain as such.

The Opera House is a venue, basically a rented hall, provided at the Kennedy Center.

Along with the Opera House is the Concert Hall and the Eisenhower Center.

Soccer and Millgirl, you can stop slobbering now.

Blu, it doesn't matter which part of the Kennedy Center they want to rename... there is no logical reason for it. Are you telling me that funding is not dependent on this passing?

I couldn't find any significant examples of Melania's "support and commitment to promoting the arts".

I only occasionally slobber over a good steak or maybe cheesecake.

Joe - I don't recall anyone discussing the renaming of military basis, aircraft carriers, it was just as stupid. I think there was a discussion on here about the moronic renaming of the Gulf of Mexico.

I seriously do not have an opinion on this, considering it is just a theater within the Kennedy Center complex.

It clearly doesn’t just cater to the opera genre as the current name implies, but also to ballet, musicals and other artistic performances.

I have no opinion.

I certainly hold no judgement or resentment to the woman for some partial nude professional modeling photographs that she did in her early 20s like MG seems to have.

Did you judge Demi Moore by these same standards when she showed as much skin while posing for Playboy while in her 3rd trimester of pregnancy?

Nevermind.

At any Hollywood red carpet event you will see as much skin as Melania exposed while being photographed.

Heck, right here in Granite City you will be seeing more tank top cleavage than the First Lady, back in her 20’s exposed.

She carries and dresses with great style and class, beats a polyester pant suit any day.

As I said, she never did full frontal nudity and you can’t prove otherwise.

What's interesting is Melania Trump was granted an EB1-Visa, nicknamed the Einstein Visa which, in theory, is reserved for people who are highly acclaimed in their field - the government cites Pulitzer, Oscar, and Olympic winners as examples - as well as respected academic researchers and multinational executives.

Remind me, which one is she? One could argue she is no Einstein. Third rate model? Maybe

the people you compare are not, nor have ever been First Lady. No one is demanding that a Opera House be named for them..

Trying to divert or change the topic from Melania Trump to others just does not make sense at all...

The point of this entire post is naming a portion of the Kennedy Center after Melania.

I will again ask you what she has contributed to America to earn this honor.

From what I’ve read, her IQ is higher than Albert’s.

She is fluent in 4 different languages, that’s a plus.

as far as all the languages she speaks-- see if you can find a clip of her speaking any of those languages fluently... she has visited schools in France and Italy, engaging with children, she greeted them in the most basic local language, but then quickly reverted to English... hmmm...

Honestly, I don't fret much over Melania, she's mostly irrelevant in all that is Trump. She does the bare minimum as the First Lady.

Oh, one more thing... she was fluent in the language of Michelle Obama... that speech was brilliant.
