Granite City mayor's race a slam dunk, why the scramble?

This election is a done deal and everyone knows it. But do they? Every day, day after day it's the same sad story. On the facebook group that part of the Granite City council owns and administers for and has deliberately alienated opposing candidates from, begins the tiresome propping up and supporting the mayor, and allowing if not encouraging chopping the now ex group members/candidates, off at the knees that are no longer in the group to defend themselves.
These old broads have made it their mission to protect the kingdom that tosses the commoners a handful of crumbs time to time. Daily they release the hellhounds Leah D., Laura L., and Kay R. and ole Nina J. to start some kind of new election drama. Today was the ole faithful union bug. Yes, the same finger pointing and claims that have throughout the decades sent many a Granite City political candidate straight into a panicked tailspin. You see, when all else fails to send people gasping and running in another direction, they break out the ole union bug stamp as a last resort. But what these knucklehead puppets don't realize is that about 75% or more of the current population (of Granite City) has no idea what a union bug is, without having to ask Siri, which translates to they just don't give a rat's ass one way or another.
If it's not one thing with this group, it's another, but why? Everyone knows who the leader or leader(s) of this lynch mob is. The whole damn city is talking about this group. But there is a big mystery surrounding this situation. This race was decided the day the mob arranged to have the only opposing candidate removed from the ballot. Why they bothered is perhaps the biggest mystery of all. I'll give credit where it's due though to the now removed write in candidate running against the current mayor. At least she cared enough to try, even as pie in the sky foolish as doing so may have been, she tried. No matter how unqualified she may be, she tried. No matter the lack of easily accessible information needed to present a valid argument or point, at least she tried. You have to at least respect the effort, even if you would never cast a vote in her favor.
So, with all of the obvious points made, why are these hellhounds insisting on the daily, if not multiple times daily public crucifixion of this candidate that is of no threat whatsoever, to win this election? Why does the mayor himself keep this candidate in the constant spotlight? He can't possibly feel threatened by this person (that most of the people) aren't even taking seriously. His constant reassurance to the voting public that he is taking the high road and refusing to participate in this "mudslinging" and never-ending personal character assassinating that has been taking place for months now. But has he? Is he really? It certainly doesn't appear so when he turns a blind eye to the hellhounds and their lynch mob doing his bidding and dirty work daily, multiple times a day on multiple social media platforms and groups. He sits silent and reads it all, every single word. He tries his best to not comment until he crumbles under pressure and takes his comments to his personal page where he will unload his frustrations over the election "mudslinging" expressing how he is looking forward to the future with the election behind him. This is when the hellhound's minions run over to his personal facebook page with encouraging comments like "you've got this mayor!", and the "don't let them get you down", and the best one of them all, "you've got my vote".
His silence while watching his council break the biggest golden rule of their Granite City election group being, no insulting, no bullying or bad mouthing, you're only allowed to build up your candidate, and you're not allowed to bash or tear down a candidate. Well obviously, those things are allowed, the bashing, belittling, the insulting and the character assassinations as long as it is done to favor and support the candidate of your choice. The mayor sitting back and watching this unfold daily is making him appear cowardice. His silence on this behavior is LOUD and doesn't exactly represent confidence and tolerance and why? Is this election group owned and ran by a serving city council member being weaponized and used for an unspoken message for anyone or everyone who may consider running for the position of mayor in future elections? Why has he not spoke out against this being allowed to continue in this group? Why isn't he holding his own council member accountable and demanding she stop allowing this to continue? This isn't a good look for him, and he needs to thank his lucky stars that Brenda Whitaker didn't put her name on the ballot, or anyone else having the proper knowledge and drive didn't step up and into this race, or this group would have been his insurance of him being a one term mayor!

Wow, that was a lot to take in. Let's say half of what you said is true and I think that's fair. The current Mayor hasn't destroyed the city more than it already was so that alone should be enough for him to win reelection. The Cockroaches are mad because Elon turned the lights on.
Re: Granite City mayor's race a slam dunk, why the scramble?
This election was over when the write in candidate didn’t follow instructions on filing petitions. She can whine about the local election board screwing her but she lost at the county level too.
She deserves credit for trying but that’s about it. From what I’ve seen and heard she has yet to define how she would or would have fixed things that Parkinson did his way. I call that the Kamala Harris syndrome.
She has one strong supporter who answers for her more than she does herself but the problem is, he just doesn’t do his homework. I think he’s a write in candidate too so maybe it’s the birds of a feather philosophy.
You’re right about the union bug. It was a big deal back when unions were strong here. Now, with a minimum wage mentality in town, most think the union bug is another type of flu.
Mrs O feeds me the FB news so I can’t speak too well to the page you speak of. It seems like the council member who operates that page does indeed change the name of it during election season. She’s the one who called a business owner batshit crazy so she’s not too sharp.
Parkinson will obviously win this election. In my view he would have won even if the realtor would have been on the ballot. She may be a good real estate agent but she’s out of her league and experience level to think she could be mayor. Just read her post. The spelling and grammar errors would make an English teacher crazy.
As for the young man running against Mr. McDowell, that’s laughable. He can’t decide what he wants to be in politics.
All that being said, so sad in a town of this size that we don’t have reasonably intelligent people challenging incumbents. There is a challenger in Ward 5, and of course the one I talked about but are the other aldermen challenged at all? Why don’t people who want change running? Why did no one challenge the school board incumbents?
We all like to gripe but not so many want to help. Promises Made, Promises Kept! Republicans stood, the liberal left wept.

Remember several years back when then City Clerk Judy Whitaker had the old City Directory printed at a print shop in Alton instead of at one of the local union print shops here in town?
PEOPLE LOST THEIR DAMN MINDS! Now here we are twenty years later and here come the union idiots out of the woodwork crying about the union bug garbage.
PEOPLE PEOPLE PEOPLE,if Madison County isn't totally red, it's damn near it. (Thanks to the RINOs, who have been Democrat all their lives, but suddenly have jumped sides in order to have half a chance of winning).
Sadly, the union bug has died, shriveled up and blown away. Come on man, no joke, it's 2025. And using this as some kind of example only makes those pointing it out appear a little more than desperate.
I read the "gang" posts, same names every time, what I don't get is what in the entire hell compels them to bash and bash and bash on Benda who doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell, with stupid shit, day in and day out? Why? Just because? He wouldn't allow a family member to embarrass him this way so I have to ask myself do they owe the mayor, or does the mayor owe them.
Re: Granite City mayor's race a slam dunk, why the scramble?
Not to appear dismissive, but who cares It's Granite City. Nobody outside of Granite City cares, and half the people here don't care either. Let them yap, I think it's funny. The Cockroaches are mad because Elon turned the lights on.
Re: Granite City mayor's race a slam dunk, why the scramble?
You're correct about one thing that's for sure. That one thing is that nobody cares about that union bug, not any longer. That ship sailed a long time ago. The Granite City Council member's 62040 election group is still continuing with their bashing sessions and breaking all their own rules daily. Someone let the cat out of the bag and a few of the lynch mob is reading this board regularly, they just can't quite decide how to handle this situation about being called out. So for now, they read and try to stay silent except with each other the "mobsters" hoping it will all go away. But it's not going away anytime soon because there are a few people from the news stations also reading this board too. Between these posts and the screen captures from that group it appears the situation has grabbed the attention over this conflict of interest situation. The funniest part of this whole story is, one of the interested people has no need for the screen captures because they are a member of that group. It doesn't get any better than that!
