Is that all that's being offered, Blu? Of course not and you know it. FEMA is going door to door to offer this immediate help and it's designed for people that have an immediate need. People that have internet access can apply online.
I think victims would appreciate anything they can get now. I think it will be a much bigger help that a roll of paper towels that Trump threw to Puerto Ricans.
Disaster relief never happens quick enough if you are someone who is effected.
illegals coming into the country get a card with $5000.00 dollars loaded on it.
Big Fat Lie Alert - there is no federal program providing this. I believe NYC is or has done this, but it has nothing to do with disaster relief and Harris.
Adults are provided $325each/month for the three month program, and children are provided $200 each/month for the three months. All refugees arriving in the United States are entitled to 8 months of Refugee Cash Assistance (RCA) from the date of their U.S. arrival.
H.R. 6155 never caught fire, though, in no small part because “fact checks” from outlets such as the AFP claimed that the UN was doing no such thing.
Those fact checkers lied.
The UN’s just released the 2024 “Inter-Agency Coordination Platform for Refugees and Migrants from Venezuela” (R4V for short), a planning and budget document for handing out $1.6 billion in 17 Latin America countries.
It confirms the UN, with the helping hands of 248 named non-governmental organizations, is indeed giving debit cards to illegal migrants — funded, in large part, by US taxpayers.
Despite the R4V plan title naming Venezuelans as recipients of this aid operation, the document’s fine print (footnote on page 14 and paragraph on page 43, for instance) says the largesse goes to “all nationalities” and “multiple other nationalities.”
The documents clear up any mystery about what the UN and NGOs are doing on the migrant trails and leaves no room for supposedly debunking “fact checks.”
In a nutshell, the UN and its advocacy partners want to spread $372 million in “Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA),” and “Multipurpose Cash Assistance (MCA)” to 624,300 immigrants who in-transit to the United States during 2024.
That money is most often handed out, other UN documents show, as pre-paid, rechargeable debit cards but also hard “cash in envelopes,” bank transfers, and mobile transfers the U.S. border-bound travelers can use for whatever they want.
Certain Cubans and Haitians are the only people who can receive federal cash assistance while in the U.S. illegally. Those who qualify include nationals of these countries whose cases for removal from the U.S. are still being decided or who have a pending application for asylum.
Refugees, people granted asylum and certain other groups may also be eligible for supplemental security income if, for example, they are aged 65 or older, blind or disabled. The maximum monthly SSI payment is $914 for an individual and $1,371 for a couple.
Refugees and people granted asylum — both groups that have legal status in the U.S. — are also eligible for federal cash assistance.
Should a migrant go to New York City, they may be eligible for a pre-paid debit card. A pilot program there involves $53 million being spent to give families with two children $350 a week. The cards can only be used at grocery stores, bodegas and convenience stores and migrants must promise to only spend on food and baby supplies. Authorities there said they wanted to see the program expanded to all migrant families currently staying in hotels. A family of four might be provided nearly $1,000 each month, or $35 per day for food, the New York Post reported. The cards are replenished every 28 days.
No, they do get cash cards and that money is provided by US tax dollars..They are entitled to multiple government programs. And many times it’s funneled to them through channels. I am unburdened by what has been.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Federal Emergency Management Agency can meet immediate needs but does not have enough funding to make it through the hurricane season, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told reporters Wednesday.
The agency is being stretched as it works with states to assess damage from Hurricane Helene and delivers meals, water, generators and other critical supplies. The storm struck Florida last week, then plowed through several states in the Southeast, flooding towns and killing more than 160 people.
FEMA is not broke, but does need more funding to be prepared for the rest of the hurricane season. There was no funding provided by Congress in the last government funding bill and Congress may need to be called back soon to pass another bill.
There are separate pots of money for disaster relief and for support to cities and states for immigration issues. No money for disaster relief was diverted to immigrants. Just another Trump LIE.
Some facts from Forbes:
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas did say Tuesday that FEMA’s disaster relief efforts are facing a dire cash crunch, warning that while the agency is “meeting the immediate needs” of Hurricane Helene recovery “with the money that we have,” it “does not have the funds to make it through the [hurricane] season.”
But those financial issues aren’t because of money going to migrants: While FEMA and U.S. Customs and Border Protection have given more than $1 billion since the start of 2023 to communities that are taking in migrants, that’s been through the agency’s Shelter and Services Program, a totally different funding pot than the Disaster Relief Fund used to respond to hurricanes and other natural disasters.
FEMA says on its website that any claims that disaster funds were rerouted to border-related efforts are “false,” noting the Disaster Relief Fund is a dedicated fund for managing disasters and money meant for the fund “has not been diverted to other, non-disaster related efforts.”
Congress determines how much money goes to FEMA’s disaster fund, and the fund faces issues after lawmakers declined to allocate additional funding for FEMA’s efforts in the stopgap funding bill it passed last month, only extending FEMA’s existing funding level and allowing it to draw from $20 billion in funds more quickly.
Democratic lawmakers expressed concern about FEMA’s budget even before Helene hit—as FEMA had to stop funding non-emergency rebuilding efforts in order to preserve funds—and some have now called for Congress to come back from its recess to pass legislation that would give the disaster relief fund more cash.
Excuse me. Mayorkas meets with the President often. He was appointed by the President. Hurricane season comes every year. This administration was suppose to be prepared.I am unburdened by what has been.
Last year, more than $780 million was awarded through SSP and the Emergency Food and Shelter Program – Humanitarian Awards, which went to organizations and cities across the country,” FEMA said in its release.
Don’t tell me they don’t do it.
Mayorkas was appointed by Biden. He briefs Biden routinely. Either not enough funds had been allocated which is highly unlikely or it was shorted in appropriations. The budget should also have a contingency percentage, was that shorted as well?
How much do you feel it cost tax payers to provide medical, food and shelter for these undocumented migrants, two pennies/dollar?
New York taxpayers spend a billion dollars a year supported these people.I am unburdened by what has been.
