Why? If you're an up-and-coming democrat, even our lard butt, obese governor, why would you pick up the ball now and risk losing against Trump who has momentum right now?
More than likely, you would wait it out, and run against Vance, Haley or another GOP first runner.
No one likes to run as a loser.
From a strategic standpoint, I doubt anyone other than Harris gets the nod. The deafening statement today came from the Obamas. They DID NOT endorse Harris but instead called for a nominating process.

Trump stomped her into the ground, she couldn't even win her state. She is the strongest woman in the GOP although she wouldn't be if Candice Owens got more involved. That is one debate Nikki wouldn't want.
