Quite the crowd at the council meeting the other night. Guess the Mayor put the muzzle on his alderwoman. She has been very quiet lately. Would love to know which 3 alderpersons backed her up on the vote to approve ordinance to stand behind her and her little rant. Very poor behavior for an elected(well kinda elected she was unopposed)official. She will have some opposition next time if there is a next time. Just sayin

JS, from what I hear (so it may not be gospel), the no votes were from McDowell, Pikerall and Pierson herself.
I'm not up on municipal law but I was surprised she was allowed to vote on the resolution that was basically her discipline in this issue. Boy, could I have used that in my time spend in the principals' offices.
Also, the votes in favor of this resolution were a direct message to the offending alderwoman, that the council did not support or defend her actions.
The free speech verbiage is the attorney's way of covering the city against potential of a lawsuit from Pierson. In short, and he's correct, the Supreme Court has upheld that freedom of speech is guaranteed to all and if the council tried to stifle her rights, that would open the city up to a potential suit.
I never saw the video so I can't assign guilt other than to say, this alderperson could have fixed the problem with an apology and a vow to never repeat such stupid behavior.
I seriously doubt she would resign and as I understand the law regarding removal of an elected official, it's looking up a goat's rectum.
In our beloved Illinois, there is no easy path for removal. Petitions, comments to the council and even Lord Elliot Davis himself cannot do anything to remove a party elected by the public and in a case where the party is elected in a small ward, I imagine any recall rules don't even exist.
Again, as stated, this is based on comments I've heard and read by others.
Happy 4th everyone. Promises Made, Promises Kept! Republicans stood, the liberal left wept.
