Think about it. Why do people always screw the cap back on a bottle of water after each drink? When you're at a restaurant drinking water, do you ever put a plate over the glass after a drink?
Who started the trend? Maybe there was a motive. Promises Made, Promises Kept! Republicans stood, the liberal left wept.

Opie,
That is a thought to consider of a whole lot of importance. So my thought on this topic is because a bottle of water is usually held in the hand or set in the car cab carrier and could easily spill...
Maybe I'm the odd one, but I don't put the lid back on... the only time I drink bottled water is when I'm driving, it fits very nicely in the cup holder and doesn't spill, seems pointless to keep taking the lid off and putting it back on.
At home, we drink tap water... yep, it hasn't killed us yet and as a kid, we had well water.
We also refill the empty plastic bottles with tap water. I'm really not that cheap, just doesn't make sense to buy what is free (not really free, but you gotta pay a water bill anyway).

It's probably because the water at a restaurant isn't served with a dish on it. If you don't read the papers, you're uninformed. If you read the papers, you're misinformed. - Mark Twain
