Got to golf this morning and of course, we had some exchanges of ideas on various topics.
Question 1) Should schools start on time this year or should Governor Lard Butt shut them down until winter (you know winter when this all started) But I digress.
Question 2) Will another loss of a semester encourage more parents to home school? I mean if we don't start school in the fall, these kids will have missed several months. Do we know how far behind they have already fallen?
Question 3) One golfer mentioned that the city just settled a contract with the fire department in which firemen can move out of Granite after being on the job ten years. Currently, they have to live here. Cops have the seniority move out clause already. Should emergency responders live in town?
Question 4.) School teachers don't have to live in town. Should this also go for cafeteria workers, janitors and the administration including the superintendent?
Question 5) Should there be term limits for local officials as well as Congress?
Question 6) Will Trump earn a second term?
Just looking for the winning answers to share when we golf next week. Thanks for your input.they did not fail, because they did what their country asked of them....

About the schools - I don't know any statistics, but I can't help thinking of the families where both parents work, the parents who don't really understand what they're trying to teach, and the parents who just don't give a rat's a$$, so if there's any safe way to put the kids back in school, I'm for it. As far as #3 and #4 - not being limited to choosing people from in town means having more talent to choose from. #5 - You can always vote someone out, but if you get a good person where you want him or her (or whatever), you may just want to keep them for longer than a term limit will permit. #6 - I don't have a crystal ball, but I'll predict it will be a nasty campaign. I can't wait. Of course all of this is just my opinion, and you know what they say about those. If you don't read the papers, you're uninformed. If you read the papers, you're misinformed. - Mark Twain

I abstain. I don't believe there will be such a thing as a decision that will make everyone happpy. If a school is fortunate enough to have two first grade teachers....have an in class teacher and an online teacher. Other than that, I don't envy school administrators in these times.
Question 2) Will another loss of a semester encourage more parents to home school? I mean if we don't start school in the fall, these kids will have missed several months. Do we know how far behind they have already fallen? For those that have the luxury to do it. I don't mean luxury as if people who would do it are loaded. What I mean is that there are also two-job working families with children in multiple grade levels. Sure, some likely will try, but I don't see a mass movement in that direction... We still need teachers do what they do best....teach. It's just a matter of what they will be able to do.
Question 3) One golfer mentioned that the city just settled a contract with the fire department in which firemen can move out of Granite after being on the job ten years. Currently, they have to live here. Cops have the seniority move out clause already. Should emergency responders live in town? yes.
Question 4.) School teachers don't have to live in town. Should this also go for cafeteria workers, janitors and the administration including the superintendent? Putting 3 and 4 together, the easy convenient answer is make them all live in Granite City, it 'feels good' to know Granite City money is staying in town and things like that. However, you want to also get the best people for the job. It's not a knock on Granite City, as people in Granite City also go to other cities to work. It's a circle....meaning you want your money to get the best results, but you also want your taxes to stay local. Yet, if the people in those positions are not good, people will not want to stay around anyway.
Question 5) Should there be term limits for local officials as well as Congress? I think there should be. Now, more than ever. Public service can be a career, but after 8 or so years as an elected official, public servants can go back to serving in other ways. Now that we're setting the dangerous precedent of only those with tremendous access to resources having access to moent
Question 6) Will Trump earn a second term? He will not, and for the good of the country, he should not. Anyone who loves their country and considers themselves patriotic to any degree should vote against him. Those want to inflict more damage on their nation, should vote for hime on Wednesday, November 4. There is nothing there and there is no leadership. The United States is no longer a superpower and more of a laughing stock. Should I continue? I think you know where that would go. When you ban books before you ban guns, you've admitted that you're more afraid of children learning than you are of children dying.
Good answers so far and much in line with our foursome from yesterday. Even had one Biden guy with us. they did not fail, because they did what their country asked of them....
