Sometimes when you live somewhere all your life, you take for granted that what's available to you isn't available everywhere...
Immediately I saw that pork steaks were available elsewhere, but not like they are around St. Louis. Also, St. Louis has its own unique take on Chinese food...Vin Hoa is probably one example, and some of the more low price restaurants. (I miss my Vin Hoa)...
But now I find out that Stag beer is only available within a radius of St. Louis.
When I grew up in Stag territory, I couldn't stand the beer...but after this annoying craft beer trend, Stag now tastes much better for some reason. It's full bodied, but still honest...not all hopped up and not all fruity. Now that I can't get it regularly, I revisited Stag and have a new appreciation for it.
So now with my stash of Maull's BBQ sauce, Vin Hoa, and a gooey butter cake..... it's also a case of Stag.Joe Biden is YOUR President!

I knew a couple that were older, but me and another friend hung out with them a lot and we were all into CB Radios. We would play Risk until 4 in the morning all the time. They drank Stag beer and sometimes i thought they alone were keeping Stag in business. After a few years i lost touch with them except for their grandson, until one day i was informed that the old man blasted the old lady with his 12 gauge. Sorry, i got off topic a little bit, but Stag beer brings back memories.

I recently had a lady ask me to grab a 12 pack of Stag she couldn't reach at WalMart. She said that her son, that was a diabetic, said Stag had no added sugar in its brewing process so he could drink it. I'm not sure of the validity of that statement but was surprised she didn't know it used to be brewed in Belleville.

Steak Taters And Gravy. Cold Gold. I have probably guzzled a few tankers of Stag in my day. I still like to have one while grilling pork steaks in the summer in the backyard...Redbirds on the radio.
However I do not share you opinion on the "annoying craft beer trend". Good beer isn't a trend and has been around for thousands of years. It wasn't until the late 40's/early 50's that the tastes of the public changed and started moving toward light lagers. There are many breweries making wonderful traditional styles that are not hopped up and fruity. Urban Chestnut, Civil Life and Schlafly for example.. all make great beer of all styles in STL and are doing a killer job at it. If you like Stag I highly suggest trying the Urban Chestnut Zwickel.

Thanks for your take on it.
The thing I guess that I don't like is that the craft beer trend has taken all the shelf space. There was a time (When corral was still open) where I could find all these regional beers and there seemed to be a larger selection of import beers too.
It seemed that these bitter, hopped-up, fruity beers are all the rage.
I still like a full flavored beer, much like a Heineken, a Bass or Harp, and a Pilsner with more flavor than Miller Lite (though I won't turn away a Miller Lite).
It's just that some of these beers go overboard.....but I"m going to look into your suggestions....because I do appreciate 'good beer' as well.

I too miss Corral. Joe Billhartz was a great beer curator. Well ahead of his time as far as having his pulse on the best of the best and being a true beer advocate. Corral was a destination spot across the midwest in the 90’s and early 2000’s for beer lovers.

When Corral was open, I was too young to appreciate or afford anything good.
I'd love to go back in time with the knowledge that I have now...and probably bring a little more money as well.
