That could be, but what if the gig that Mayor Ed may have thought he was going to get all of a sudden gets got by someone else?? Who knows how this will all shake out, but while they are playing musical chairs, when the music stops, somebody is not going to be very happy. This is going to be some good entertainment, keep your camera and recorder ready jeremy.

It wasn't that funny, pretty much a volley for spike kind of cheap shot.

It's just the insistence on grammar and diction is reserved in some cases and levied in others.

Quite true, when the mayor appears on Channel 2,4,5 or anywhere else, he speaks for Granite City. You want Granite City to put its best foot forward, because I know and you know there are still many talented people who call Granite City home. You know and I know that you do not want the stereotype of 'hoosiervillle' exacerbated any more than it has to be.

I do not vote in that election so I want to be careful to recognize that boundary....as much as I have to bite my tongue or select all then delete..

But I do have to chuckle how important that is to you, but how people who are a little more Republican minded are a little less judicious about their standard bearer.

Fiorina, Kasich, Bush..... all but had a generally left-leaning vote in the bag...as long as it wasn't the wing nuts like Cruz, Carson, and Rubio...

I know it's important for the crew to have someone in power with R behind their name....but why they're not pulling for Weld or why people like Kasich and other decent Republicans don't try again is still a mystery to me.

I suppose I need to keep the topic to Granite City...but who represents my hometown and your current town is VERY important, if indeed one cares about their locale. Why is who represents the nation so unimportant...as long as the letter R is behind their name?

All good points my friend and here is my simple answer.

I care who represents me locally because we are a small community and are judged by our surrounding areas. For things like home resale, it’s important to have someone who represents us with class and dignity. I believe Hagnauer dioes that as well as any mayor in my lifetime. And by the way, local officials run as non partisan so I don’t vote for an R or D.

Now on a national level,I vote with my wallet. I made a huge return in 2019 on my investments. Ergo, Trump 2020. I don’t care what the Queen of England or the Chancellor of Germany think about our country. When the war whistle blows they will call us for help no matter who is in the WH. I also want someone in that chair who isn’t afraid to threaten crazies like Rocket man and is feared by Middle East terrorist. I haven’t seen a dem in the WH in a long time who had balls. Well, excluding Hillary that is.

At least you have your reasons.

I could argue that there are reasons beyond the wallet, but you have your reasons.

I agree with your assessment on Ed. I do not believe it is wise for the City of Granite City to be treated like Breitbart fodder like some of our posters want to do...

I only remember three mayors in my lifetime that is not so short...too young to remember Mr. Schuler, but I do remember Von DEE, and Mr. Selph..

In those three, I do believe Ed is the best of the crew and he represents Granite City well.

I am not in town so I will not editorialize whether or not he should continue nor whether or not who the replacement would be if he doesn't run.

One or two votes could sway anything in municipal politics and we all have to respect what the 4,000 people who will actually show up have to say.

Opie, im glad you came out and gave your Mayor Ed your seal of approvement. You may have done it before but mostly i only recall you kind of, sort of defending him when he was getting attacked on here. I guess its close to being the same thing, since i think everyone knew you were a Mayor Ed guy.
My read on Mayor Ed is that like him or not he never loses, and that cant be discounted. I read a lot of not so flattering things about Mayor Ed, but he appears to know his own shortcomings and knows how to play the game.
I do agree with you Opie for the most part that on local matters the R and D shouldnt matter, but lets face it, if Mayor Ed wasnt a Democrat the Democrats wouldnt have bothered to pluck an appointment away from Prenzler for the MESD. So in that regard, it really does matter.
Let the reshuffling continue.
