Nobody is going to get this guy on the cheap. Either Carlson or Gorman will have to be a part of any St. Louis package to acquire Arenado, and that would just be a start. Nolan Arenado is one of the top half a dozen players in MLB and is still just 28 years old. In addition to a nice return the Rockies may consider taking one salary dump off the Cardinals hands, probably either Fowler or carpenter. Getting Arenado would be bigger than bringing in Goldy.

While I would love to see him manning the hot corner in STL with that defense...Buyer beware on Nolan Arenado for 3 reasons.

1. .265/323./.476... those are his career splits away from Coors. At Coors, he is a .324/.380/.615 hitter. Those are DRASTIC splits from a big sample size.

2. That contract. Yes, it's big dollars (234 Mil left) but that is not what scares me because we all know the Cards have money. His opt out in 2 years scares me. We give up all these prospects for a guy that ends up leaving town.

3. Where does Carpenter play? If we can't get rid of him, will Mo really be able to stomach him sitting on the bench making $18 mil for the next couple years?

I think Arenado could step up his game if allowed to play for a contender. In any Arenado deal the Cardinals would have to dump either Fowler or Carpenter along with several top prospects. Maybe the opt out can be renegotiated, that is a very legit concern.

The new pitcher they just got from Tampa, Dakota Hudson, Carlos Martinez and one other player is supposedly what it will cost. So if they get him, they arent getting him for cheap.
