Granite City's fire department kept industry there

according to a post in another thread. One might opine though that while the fire department is in fact needed in Granite it was filled with the usual nepotism and good old boy hiring tactics. None the less when someone says the fire department is needed I am sure we would all agree. On the other hand the Fire Department seems to have done nothing as the Granite City manufacturing industry was decimated. Such a shame but people are waking up to the reality...they are being played like pawns.
#Dees post If Granite City wants 30,000 people (excuse me, 29,000) and industry they will need a PAI
WHat a laugh So tell us why industry left Granite then when it had such a great fire department? Is this you writing Ed? LOLOLOLOLOL High taxes to run various so called public safety agencies and departments are one of the exact reasons industry left Granite City.
Re: Granite City's fire department kept industry there
Again, you have such disdain for our first responders, which is puzzling to me.
Would you also agree that every enlisted soldier and officer is over paid since we do not have to send them all to war on a regular basis? Do you believe their staffing tables should go down as well?
Then if you want a strong military, why do you want to weaken the protection of the safety of your community?
As for what has declined or what remains in Granite City, I do not know that it has been just total decline. There are a variety of developments in the Port District as well as those along Missouri Avenue and those around the mill as well.
What do you think the response of some of those factory owners would be if they found out that there were massive cuts in fire service?
Do you even know the history of some of the major fires in Granite City? Are you aware of what truly is within the City? Would you want a force incapable of responding, or one with a delayed response time?
You are using the reasoning behind what it takes to protect a bedroom community and applying it to an industrial city.
I am not a constituient of Ed Hagnauer nor protected by the GCFD. Beyond that, I don't owe you an explanation...
Ergo, the burden of proof and the need for explanation rests with you, to prove that you know what you are talking about. So far, you have proven the opposite.
All you are doing is denigrating local responders who put it all on the line to keep the community safe. Somehow, you manage to have a disdain for them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTtfVOyVsf0

River, tell me of this disdain. I mean it has to be true right, an accusation means guilt these days. Boris Johnson took a big dump on leftism in the UK yesterday. Things to come??
Re: Granite City's fire department kept industry there
River, this is what happens when you rail on local stuff, you ruffle feathers and give people an excuse to get pissy. Boris Johnson took a big dump on leftism in the UK yesterday. Things to come??
Nope and I have a high regard for those that individually risk their lives to protect the public. However I do have issues with the way the political operation that the Granite City fire departments operates under. Like so many things in Granite it is ripe with nepotism rewarding the connected. To compare it to the 9-11 issue as 3dee did is preposterous. On one hand that poster said that Granite's can't be compared to Edwardsville's or Glen Carbon's yet in the same breath compares Granite's to New York City's. I do commend 3Dees acknowledging that "Edwardsville and Glen Carbon are rated higher than Granite City's" but strongly differ on the opinion that Granite's is more like New York City's than a bedroom community like Glen-Ed. The proposition in 3Dee's post that Granite needs its fire department to keep industry there is quite inaccurate in my mind because Granite could be a poster city regarding losing industry. One could even point to the high taxes levied against industry to run things like the nepotism packed fire department as one of the reasons they left. It is not the fire person but rather the department that is at issue here...but as we see the usual spin rolls on.
By the way I re-read a book today "Detroit, An American Autopsy" by Charlie LeDuff that dealt with the once prosperous City of Detroit that was gutted by corruption and high taxes. In many ways it is an exact copy of what has happened in Granite City during a similar time frame. Pretty sad all in all...but Detroit like Granite was and is just another industrial powerhouse that was brought to its knees by the usual Democrats. What a sad situation to a town that once offered jobs to multi-generational families that has been decimated to a town full of drugs, welfare and urban decay.
Your assessment, while taking a turn toward objectivity is still off base.
_ I looked at my responses and didn't mention FDNY at all. It was mentioned by another person. Granite City does have different needs than communities that mainly are supported by housing and white collar type of office jobs. A city like Granite City, with a larger manufacturing sector has much different needs. So yes, it's importa
- A lower rating is a GOOD thing. Look at my post. Granite is rated a 3.. Good for Granite City, but a 1 is the best rating. Such rating can be found for STL FD - but I do believe Alton is at a 2. Actually, the rating has to do with resources and perhaps a degree of training than anything. Still, if you want industry, you would need to ensure the safety of all the workers in a worst case scenario. I never said the Fire Department kept industry in town. However, if Granite City were to weaken their Emergency services, insurance rates would rise. It may impede future business development as well.
Now your arguments -- more conjecture than anything...
Neoptism is an assumption that you make. I do not disagree that maybe some people have city jobs because of who they know. Still, people who have the jobs must still be trained accordingly and pass requisite testing.
And your tying it all to whatever else is conjecture at best and another poorly constructed argument in order to blame the Democrats in a world where Trump can do no wrong.
This is my last word on the topic...so have fun doing what you do.... bashing anyone who thinks differently and finding new ways to praise Trump, who can do no wrong in your eyes. _https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTtfVOyVsf0
I bet when the World Series ends, somehow some negative way Trump will get a mention. Probably on a bad umpire call, they will say the Russians made it happen and Trump was in on it.Boris Johnson took a big dump on leftism in the UK yesterday. Things to come??
You will note I was referring to another post yet you try and make things into what they are not and then draw conclusions based upon your spin. I am just going to ignore your posts because I am not into spinning trolls that use a post utilizing assorted fallacies. Goodbye Good luck May god bless you
