City Cars and Employees Usage

I was at Quiktrip (Nameoki and Madison) this evening, and I looked across the lot and saw a city car - a little silver car with municipal plates - in a space. Out walks Craig Knight in street clothes. All due respect to Mr. Knight and his service to our city, but why would he be driving a city vehicle when not on duty? That doesn't seem like an efficient usage of taxpayer funds/property.

Can anyone please help me understand why this occurred and if I am off base with my question?

You do realize that Mr. Knight is no longer with the police department. He now has something to do with city insurances and may be out investigating a claim, even in the evening.

I didn't realize that. Thank you for the clarification. That said, does he need to use a city vehicle for that around 8 PM? I understand being out investigating a claim, but I would assume he would be dressed professionally, not in a t-shirt and shorts....

I am 100% against their non business use of city vehicles unless they make significantly less than their peers and it’s a perk.
