If guns are so good at deterring crime, we should be the most crime free nation on earth with 120 guns per 100 people. No other country can even be compared with the USA in terms of rate of gun ownership. But in places where there is high rate of gun ownership and low crime, there is also much more restricted access to guns. They must be registered and obtaining them is much more difficult. It's just flawed thinking that more weapons will make us a safer society, when half the world's guns are already in our possession. I never saw a scenario where more options for death and more of anything lethal would actually have an outcome of saving more lives.
