That's the thing Bob...we try to keep the nukes out of the hands of 'crazy people'. The community of nations tries to ensure that these weapons that can blow nations off the map and end the world as we know it do not get into the wrong hands.
However, it just takes one election, one misguided election and the nukes suddenly are in less than stable hands.
Kind of the same with responsible gun ownership.... a 'responsible' dad fills his safe with weapons for hunting and protection --- and a couple of weapons of war....because he can.
The good dad may shoot straight as an arrow in good times and in bad and never waver from his steadiness. However, it doesn't mean that little junior may not fly off the handle or even when junior's baby mama brings over little third for a weekend visit..that he might not somehow see grandpa's stash.
NRA can try to advocate keeping the guns away from crazy people.
The problem is in the Western World, all countries have mental illness. All countries have violent video games. Many countries are more Godless than the US of A. And they simply do not have mass shootings or at least not on the scale that we have them in the US of A.
So what is the one thing that the US of A may do differently?
If they have lower church attendance than we do, turning to God isn't going to do a thing...unless we're really ready to listen to what is truly being taught about non-violence.
If they also have mental illness just the same as we..... then that doesn't work.
If their kids also play violent video games and watch violence on TV --- then that doesn't work either.
What is left?
Oh --- okay, the ability for civilians to run around with weapons of war....
